Sometimes, a minute of your day can be someone’s whole life, as witnessed by Gwen Maxwell, 85. As she was leaving for work early in the morning, she saw a tiny creature that looked like an injured puppy tumbling about her house. When she got closer, she realized that what she thought a puppy was actually a weeks-old coyote pup.
The poor thing was completely covered in 7 huge clumps of chola cacti and could barely move. She recalled: “He’d get up and tumble around with all those chollas on him, and it was just so heartbreaking.”
While Maxwell ran home to get help from the neighbors, the little pup collapsed due to heat and exhaustion.
Luckily, two men from the nearby golf course came to rescue and with heavy gloves and a set of pliers started removing the burden off the little guy.
Once all the cacti were gone, everyone was relieved to see the cutest coyote pup. Though bruised and hurt, the little guy remained calm throughout the process and was happy to be free again.
This entire process was observed by the coyote mom who was peeking behind the house wall.
Once the pup was cleaned and taken care of, he happily ran back to his mother and the three Good Samaritans were happy that the family was back together.
Though nature has its own ways, it doesn’t hurt to stop and help every time we can because that heartwarming feeling of putting a smile on someone’s face certainly is priceless.
